CHICKS provide free respite breaks for disadvantaged children from all over the UK, including many from Plymouth and the surrounding area, at their ‘retreats’ in Devon and Cornwall. 
 
CHICKS Fundraiser Mick Ryan said, “We are delighted to be nominated as the official local charity for what is one of the top races in the country. The association with the event is important as it helps spread the word about what we do and will hopefully increase the numbers of runners we have next year.  We receive no government funding and rely solely on donations to raise money to provide underprivileged children with free six day respite breaks.”

CHICKS (Country Holidays for Inner City Kids) is a registered charity. CHICKS’ camps run from March to December and we have now supported 7,000 children since the charity began in 1992 - a landmark we are all very proud of!

The children CHICKS care for come from a variety of backgrounds. Many have been abused, live in poverty, or have been neglected.  Others live in care or are themselves young carers, often bearing the extraordinary responsibility of caring for disabled or terminally ill relatives. What they have in common is the desperate need to create some positive childhood memories, to be listened to, and to have the kind of fun that all children deserve.  Each year, hundreds of children spend 6 days at one of the CHICKS ‘retreats’ in Devon and Cornwall, both centres are places where the children can run free and be completely safe.  Every child gets the total attention of their fully trained supervisors, and are made to feel cared for and valued.
